Current Phenomena refers to observable events, trends, or natural occurrences happening in the present moment. Cheechel has a playful and meditative take on the phenomenas that happen in our oceans. Her work is a focus lens to the textures of bait ball formations, waves and currents, and coral life forms. This body of work is a love letter to the beauty of patterns, perseverance, and power the ocean exudes for the world to see.
Working as an oncology nurse, Cheecel finds connection and meaning in helping patients through some of the toughest situations in their lives. She uses art as a therapeutic outlet to balance the heaviness of being a nurse. Observing the phenomena and complexities in nature as well as patients' journeys, Cheechel sees individual lives moving along, connecting and communicating, living and persevering, some getting caught in the tragedies, and the rest moving along to keep it all together. It’s all a contribution to the beauty and art of the fight to live.
